----------
In Preparation:
----------
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.
You'll be sending your files to a remote server computer
somewhere on Earth.
----------
Step one, of course, is getting the FTP Program.
The program is quite small, so the download is quick!
I've found a GREAT free FTP program. It's "FireFTP" used through the Firefox browser!!!
It's fast...NOT quirky....and easy!!!!!!
First you must download the Firefox browser....this browser is as good as any on Earth!
NOW click this text to get Firefox!!!
NOW get the FireFTP add-on by clicking this text!!!
This entire FTP section is currently being revised with FireFTP pertinent graphics!
It is actually identical to Ace FTP, only it runs in the Firefox browser and has NO annoying elements!

Call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) technical support
and tell them you want to put up a personal website.
Let them know that you want to make sure
you have the correct stuff for the FTP program to work.
They may need to transfer you to another person
for website specific information.
---------
Find the field with the down arrow just to the left of the "Connect" button
in the upper left area of the FireFTP screen.
Click "Create an Account":

FireFTP is a simple, quick moving little program that you'll master.
FTP is actually quite amazing, and it's faster than e.Mail!
---------
The 3 things that need to be entered correctly in FireFTP (See Above and Below Graphics)
are the HOST, LOGIN, and PASSWORD.
In the "Account Name" field, enter something to click that you will easily recognize,
such as "Connect to FTP". You can leave the "Catagory" blank.

---------
NOTE: From this point on, the pages are NOT updated for FireFTP!!!!!!!!!
=========================================
Click File>Connect>New Site Profile to enter your server, user ID, and PW. (See Graphic below)

In the "Please enter a descriptive name for this site" area,
pick a name you'll easily recognize (See Graphic Above).
This creates the icon that you'll double click each time to connect (See Graphic Below).

Double click the new icon and make sure the FTP program
connects to your server, and you are ready to go!

You'll see connection stuff scrolling in the top window when you connect.
---------
NOTE:
It may be trial and error until you get the correct stuff entered.

I advise staying on the phone with your tech. support until you are able to connect!
---------
Make sure you ask what your domain will be.
Domains for personal websites will be different for each company.
Examples:
yourwebsite.home.comcast.net
www.edifax.com/yourwebsite
---------
You can get your own domain for only about $8.00/yr. now.
I remember when it was over $100!
Remember: If you get your own domain,
you'll have to pay a monthly "Hosting" fee.
I can help with all that stuff!
Click this text to e.Mail me!

---------
Ask them where they are in the USA!
It's always fun to know the distance you'll be FTP'ing!
It's also fun to have access to a remote computer.
---------
The next lesson introduces you to the AceFTP interface.
