In Preparation:

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.
You'll be sending your files to a remote server computer
somewhere on Earth.
----------
Step one, of course, is getting the FTP Program.
The program is quite small, so the download is quick!
Go to:
software.visicommedia.com/en/products/aceftpfreeware/
and initiate the download for AceFTP Freeware for Windows!

It's a free program, so you'll have to go through
a few dialogue boxes to open and close the program.
Likle many free (or otherwise) programs, it can be a bit "quirky".
If it starts acting weird, just close it and open it again!
There are hundreds of FTP programs out there.
Call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) technical support
and tell them you want to put up a personal website.
Let them know that you want to make sure
you have the correct stuff for the FTP program to work.
They'll probably need to transfer you to another person
for website specific information.

Verify your "Server", "User ID", and "Password":
The 3 things that need to be entered correctly in AceFTP (See Above and Below Graphics)
are the SERVER, USER ID, and PASSWORD.

AceFTP is a simple, quick moving little program that you'll master.
It's actually quite amazing, and it's faster than e.Mail!

Click File>Connect>New Site Profile to enter your server, user ID, and
PW. (See Graphic below)
In the "Please enter a descriptive name for this site" area,
pick a name you'll easily recognize (See Graphic Above).
This creates the icon that you'll double click each time to connect (See Graphic Below).
Double click the new icon and make sure the FTP program
connects to your server, and you are ready to go!
You'll see connection stuff scrolling in the top window when you connect.

NOTE:
It may be trial and error until you get the correct stuff entered.
I advise staying on the phone with your tech. support until you are able to connect!

Make sure you ask what your domain will be.
Domains for personal websites will be different for each company.
Examples:
yourwebsite.home.comcast.net
www.edifax.com/yourwebsite

You can get your own domain for only about $8.00/yr. now.
I remember when it was over $100!
Remember: If you get your own domain,
you'll have to pay a monthly "Hosting" fee.
